Methane Gas Detector Singapore
Methane (CH4) is colourless, odourless and extremely combustible. It is the main component of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). It is generated by the decomposition of biodegradable solid waste as well as animal and human waste. It is therefore commonly present in landfill sites and sewage treatment works. Production of methane gas occurs naturally in many industries including waste disposal, oil and gas, mining, petrochemical and the energy sector.
Methane is not generally considered a toxic gas, however, it is extremely flammable even in low concentrations when mixed with other chemicals – it is also an asphyxiant as it will displace oxygen. This is particularly dangerous for working in confined spaces.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has no permissible exposure limit for methane but the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s (NIOSH) maximum recommended safe methane concentration for workers during an 8-hour period 1,000 ppm (0.1 percent). However, this is when asphyxiation can be just as hazardous. Methane in its gaseous state is an asphyxiant, which in high concentrations may displace the oxygen supply you need for breathing, especially in confined spaces. Reduction in oxygen can cause suffocation and loss of consciousness. It can also cause a headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, and loss of coordination.
Function of Methane Gas Detector
Buildings like refineries, factories and office buildings that use gas as a power source it is required to install methane gas detectors to prevent human exposure to toxic gas leaks or explosions and fire. The reason is there is a high level of combustible gases.
Handheld Remote Laser Methane Gas Detector
The handheld remote laser Methane Gas Detector uses optical absorption technology and can remotely detect a distance of 30m with no gas contact. When the reflection condition is good, remote sensing distance will be up to 50m. It is small in size, lightweight and portable. It is highly selective and only responds to Methane (CH4) and no other gases. The internal feature of the detector is highly sensitive, fast response and highly reliable. It has an LCD display and designed with shock resistant.
Miniature NDIR Methane Gas Detector
Miniature NDIR (Non-dispersive Infrared) Methane gas detector adopts advanced non-dispersive technology to detect and monitor CH4 concentration. There is a heated infrared source inside a small chamber, the inside temperature of the gas detector is much higher than the outside which can avoid condensing events and the high humidity influence. Besides, the printed circuit board (PCB) inside the gas detector is specially treated for corrosion protection. It is small in size, lightweight and easy to convey.
