Helium (He) is a colourless, odourless, non-toxic, inert, monatomic gas, the first in the noble gas group. Its boiling point is the lowest among all the elements. It is the second most common element in the Universe after hydrogen yet this gas is relatively scarce on Earth. As helium is lighter than air it can be used to inflate airships, blimps and balloons. As compared to hydrogen, helium is preferred due to its non-flammable property and therefore is safer. Helium has 92% of the lifting power of hydrogen; however, it is safer to use because it is non-combustible and has a lower rate of diffusion than that of hydrogen gas.

Breathing helium does not kill brain cells but the lack of oxygen when you breathe in helium that kills your brain cells. To be safe do not breathe in any gas that is not readily available to you. Helium is an asphyxiant and if you breathe in a lot of helium it will suffocate you and cause death.

Helium Gas Detector is used to detect the level of helium present at the site. When the level of helium at the site exceeded the mark set in the detector, it will trigger an alarm indicating that the level of helium has reached an alarming stage. However, helium is non-combustible but it is lighter than air.
