Chlorine (CL2) is a greenish-yellow gas that has a very pungent odour similar to the smell of bleach. It irritates the mucous membrane and the liquid burns the skin. Coughing and vomiting may occur at 30 ppm and cause lung damage at 60 ppm. 1000 ppm is fatal level after a few deep breaths.
